In this interactive workshop, teachers will explore the technologies that Fab Lab has to offer: 2D and 3D design software, 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC routing, and more. These hands-on projects will help spark ideas for integrating making in the classroom. Act 48 credit available.

2. Hockey Scholar STEM Learning Program
Allegheny County math and science teachers can register for two no-cost digital learning resources provided by the Pittsburgh Penguins and other sponsors: the Hockey Scholar - STEM Learning program (target grades 5-8) and the Vault - Understanding Money program (target grades 4-6) at www.everfi.com/register. 3. K-9 Saturday STEM SeriesWorkshops
The Leonard Gelfand Center for Service Learning and Outreach at CMU still has openings for their k-9 Saturday Series Workshops starting in January. 5. Covalent Learning Forum
The Covalent Learning Forum is an online discussion board where high school science teachers can communicate with Pittsburgh university scientists to ask a quick concept question, find out about current research, and develop new hands-on lab activities. 6. Economics PA
The Pennsylvania Coal Alliance and EconomicsPennsylvania invite you to COALFest 2016 on June 15, 2016 at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. This one-day conference will give participants the opportunity to learn more about the important role of coal and coal minining.
COALFest will begin with a keynote address from John Pippy, (CEO of The Pennsylvania Coal Alliance) followed by a day of breakout sessions including a tour of the on-campus coal and coke museum (additional information available here). Participants will hear presentations from Penn State professors and get an in-depth look at EconomicsPennsylvania's new curriculum, The Economics of Coal: One Lump or Two?

Sustainable Energy Teacher Training Workshop II: Solar Thermal Technologies - May 18, 2016 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Citizen Power is offering a FREE workshop for 6th – 12th grade teachers of energy-related curriculum on Concentrating Solar Energy, Solar Thermal Heating, and Passive Solar Building Design. 1. Summer Program for High School Students (Former Governor’s School)
The University of Pittsburgh Health Career Scholars Academy is accepting applications for the 2016 summer program. All current high school sophomores and juniors (age 15 and up) are eligible to apply. This is a four-week summer academic residential program that introduces students to the various careers in health care. Applications are available on the website www.hcsa.pitt.edu. Deadline is February 15, 2016.

2. Healthy NewsWorks
This is a classroom based program developed by a former journalist in Philadelphia. The program effectively teaches language arts skills in alignment with common core standards and national health education standards. What makes it unique, is that it brings health and health experts into the classroom and then empowers students to create a circular that gets disseminated throughout their community.
The founder of this program feels that it would be exciting to find a willing partner or 2 to pilot this model here in the Pittsburgh region.

Youth Make: Larger Than Life

Pittsburgh Cares will be offering a week-long service camp this August for PPS high-school students. The camp is designed to address the disparity in Pittsburgh Promise scholarship funding between African American males and their counterparts of other races and genders.

AIU MSC Pitt-Bridge Program


The AIU MSC Pitt-Bridge program is an extracurricular program that encourages students to learn 21st century skills through engagement in the health sciences. Its VISION is to excite underserved youth in STEM by engaging in health research in their community, become family health advocates, and improve community health. It does so through its MISSION to provide an opportunity for underserved youth to participate in health science clubs where rigorous experiential learning is conducted in an after-school setting.
